Tax-Aide, a Tax Assistance Program

Tax AideThe AARP Foundation is providing representatives in the upcoming months for tax assistance and preparation of simple tax returns.  The Tax Aide counselors will be at the library every Wednesday in February, every Wednesday in March, and Wednesday April 4 and April 11 from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm.  No reservations will be taken.

When meeting with a representative please bring the following: a current year's tax forms and booklets, a copy of last year's tax return, all income forms (such as a W-2, SSA-1099, and all other 1099 forms), receipts or cancelled checks itemizing deductions, child care provider information (name, employer, ID, SS#) and social security cards or other official documentation for yourself and all dependants.

This program is free and open to everyone.

JSTOR Database Now Providing No-Login-Needed Access

JSTOR logo

JSTOR, an academically-focused database, recently made several of its holdings available for public access without the need for a special login.  JSTOR provides citations and, in some cases, full-text versions of articles and photos found in national and international journals and other publications.  With over 1,000 academic journals at your fingertips, you can find some information to get you started on a variety of research topics.  Give JSTOR a try and let us know what you think!

State Senator Sue Rezin visits Morris Library

Chilton's Database Maintenance

As part of regularly scheduled maintenance to ensure you receive the best product possible, the Chilton's Auto Repair database will be unavailable from 5:00 AM to approximately 7:00 AM on Thursday, October 27.  Anyone attempting to access the Chilton's database during this time may experience an interruption in service.  Please inform library staff if you experience any difficulty with the Chilton's database as of that afternoon or later.

Kindle E-Books Now Available!

Kindle e-books now available!

Amazon announced on Wednesday, September 21 that they have partnered with OverDrive, the e-books provider used by this library, to provide Kindle-formatted e-books through OverDrive.  This new format is available immediately.  You can access the Kindle-formatted e-books by going to the library's OverDrive homepage and clicking on the Kindle "Now Available" graphic (identical to the above image) located on the left side of the page.  Clicking the image will show you all of the Kindle-compatible titles owned by the library.  When you select a title (or two or three) and begin to check out, you will be redirected to the Amazon website and will need to log in using your Amazon account to complete the checkout.

Changes in Computer Access Coming September 27

On September 27 the library is installing a new program called PC Reservation on the public computers.  The installation will take several hours, which means that the PUBLIC COMPUTERS WILL NOT BE AVAILABLE UNTIL LATE IN THE DAY ON SEPTEMBER 27.

Once the new program is installed, ALL COMPUTER USERS WILL NEED A MORRIS AREA PUBLIC LIBRARY CARD in good standing in order to log on to the computers.  Those who do not have a library card or who are coming from out of the library's district may receive a guest pass for $1.00 a session.

Start preparing now by signing up for a library card during regular business hours!
