February Movie Night: Argo

The Morris Area Public Library's movie night for February will take place on February 21 at 6:00 p.m.  We will be featuring the movie Argo starring Ben Affleck, Bryan Cranston, and John Goodman.

When militants seize control of the U.S. embassy in Tehran during the height of the Iranian Revolution, CIA agent Tony Mendez creates a fake Hollywood film production in order to rescue a group of American diplomats who have sought refuge at the home of a Canadian ambassador.  Argo was inspired by actual events. 

This movie is rated R for language and some violent images.  Therefore, you must be at least 18 to register and attend. 

This movie is free and open to all adults.  To register, please call 815-942-6880 or visit the library.  Refreshments will also be available.

Bingo Night for Adults

bingo cardsGet out of the house enjoy an hour of BINGO fun! Bag up a white elephant item or two and bring them to our bingo games. If you win, you will get to choose from the loot. Games will be once a month on Tuesdays; January 14th, February 18th, March 18th, and April 22nd. Anyone over the age of 18 can attend. Registration is required.

Adult Writer's Group

writers groupWriters of all interests and levels are welcome to join a new WRITER'S GROUP! The next meeting date is Thursday April 24th from 5:30 PM- 7:30 PM, with future dates every other Thursday. Attendees must be 18 years or older. This new group offers you the opportunity to develop your craft and receive thoughtful, positive and useful critiques. No registration, just drop in!

Laughs & Crafts Pinterest Club!

So how does a Pinterest club work?   Read on…  You pick up the flyer with the supply list from the library.  Purchase your supplies and bring them to the next group meeting. That’s it!  Each month will be a different craft. If you feel really ambitious, contribute to the "Pinterest Potluck" and make a simple snack or appetizer you found on Pinterest.   Join us for a fun way meet other crafty people and to get together to eat, gab, and craft!

Tax-Aide at the Library UPDATES: see below!

Next date for Tax-Aide is Wednesday April 9  (9 am - approx. 2 pm).

 The Morris Area Public Library is hosting Tax-Aide, a tax assistance program. AARP representatives will help troubleshoot questions and prepare simple tax returns. Tax-Aide counselors will be available at the library from 9:00 a.m. until approximately 2:00 p.m. on February 12, 19, and 26, March 5, 12, 19, and April 2 and 9. March 26 has been cancelled.

 When meeting with one of the representatives please bring the following: a current year’s tax forms and booklets, a copy of last year’s tax return, all income forms (such as a W-2, SSA-1099, and all other 1099 forms), receipts or cancelled checks itemizing deductions, child care provider information (name, employer, ID, SS#) and social security cards or other official documentation for yourself and all dependants.

 No reservations will be taken. This program is free and open to everyone.

City of Bones Movie Poster Free Movie Night Featuring: The Mortal Instruments City of Bones

Synopsys- New York Teen Clary Fray learns that she is descended from a noble line of half-andel demon slayers known as the Shadowhunters.  She joins their powerful ranks in a bid to rescue her missing mother from Downworld, where the terrifying creatures of legend roam free.

This movie will be shown on Tuesday, December 3, at 5:00 p.m. It is rated PG 13, with a runtime of 130 minutes.  Registration is appreciated, as free refreshments are served. Register over the phone (815.942.6880) or in person (604 Liberty Street, Morris).

Job Openings at the Library

The Morris Area Public Library is seeking (2) part-time Circulation Desk Clerks. 

The ideal Circulation Clerk will possess an exceptional customer service attitude, the ability to multi-task, works well with others, and has attention to detail as well as basic computer skills.  The Clerk’s 15 hour work week will include a variety of day, evening, & weekend hours.  A High School diploma or equivalent is required.  Library experience is preferred, but not required.  Please direct all applications and inquiries to Jennifer Crisostomo, Circulation Manager.
