![]() The Morris Area Public Library is hosting a program about local watercolor artist, Ruth Van Sickle Ford on Saturday, October 8 at 2:00pm in the library lower level. This program is presented on behalf of the Edward D. Hatcher family as part of the Catherine L. Hatcher Memorial Program.
Local author, Nancy Hopp will present an informative program on the local artist, Ruth Van Sickle Ford. Ford was born in 1897 and was raised in the Fox River Valley of northern Illinois. In 1954, Ford was the first woman from Illinois to be invited into the prestigious American Watercolor Society. Known for her colorful personality and free sense of perspective, Ruth exhibited her paintings throughout North America and Central America for more than 5 decades. She continued to teach and paint until her death in 1989.
Nancy Smith Hopp enjoyed a long and fulfilling career in marketing communications before retiring in 2007. Nancy’s book about pioneering artist Ruth Van Sickle Ford culminates more than 7 years of research. Nancy has written a variety of publications over the years, including more than 36 short stories for her grandchildren, but Warm Light, Cool Shadows is her first full-length illustrated biography.
